Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Cue the Clip (“we,” “us,” the “Service”) is a transcript-search tool operated as an independent project. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the Service.
Information we collect
- Email address — only if you voluntarily join our early-access waitlist. We use it to contact you about access and updates to Cue the Clip. We do not sell it or share it for marketing.
- IP address — collected automatically when you use the Service. We use it to prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, deduplicate waitlist signups, and produce aggregate usage statistics.
- Basic usage data — such as searches performed and pages requested, in aggregate, to understand and improve the Service.
- Share-link clicks — when someone opens a
cuetheclip.comshort link, we count the click so we know which clips are worth sharing. See Share links below.
We do not collect names, payment details, or account passwords, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
Share links
When you copy a link to a moment, we create a short link of the form cuetheclip.com/abc1234 that redirects to the video at that timestamp. Each time someone opens one, we record the short link used, the time, a salted one-way hash of the visitor’s IP address, the country reported by Cloudflare, and the referring site, so we can see which clips people find worth sharing. We do not store the raw IP address, and we do not build profiles of individuals or track anyone across sites. Short links do not identify the person who created them. Once the link redirects you, you are on the video platform’s own site (for example YouTube) and its privacy policy applies.
Cookies
Cue the Clip does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Our security and network provider, Cloudflare, sets a small number of strictly-necessary cookies (for example, to distinguish real visitors from bots and to protect the Service). These are required for the site to function securely and are not used to profile you.
How your information is used
- To operate, secure, and improve the Service.
- To communicate with you if you joined the waitlist.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, spam, or technical problems.
- To comply with legal obligations where applicable.
Service providers
We use Cloudflare to deliver and protect the Service; in doing so, Cloudflare processes your IP address and network requests on our behalf. The Service itself is hosted on our own hardware, and waitlist emails are stored on that hardware — not with a third-party mailing platform.
Data retention
We keep waitlist emails until you ask us to remove them or until the early-access program ends. IP-based and aggregate usage records are kept only as long as needed for security and analytics, then deleted or anonymized.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of communications. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] and we’ll respond promptly.
Children
Cue the Clip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party content & embedded media
Cue the Clip indexes publicly available content and links back to the platform that hosts it. To do this, search results display video thumbnails and images loaded directly from third-party servers — for example, YouTube thumbnails are served by Google (img.youtube.com). When your browser loads these images, or when you follow a link to a video, those providers may receive your IP address and device information and may set their own cookies, in accordance with their own privacy policies. In particular, use of YouTube content is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
Cue the Clip does not embed autoplaying video players, and we are not responsible for the data practices of external platforms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
